This piece happened spontaneously- just a sudden impulse without any premeditation and I immediately loved it because it read like graffiti. My absolute favorite thing to do when traveling is to check out the street art in any given city. It helps me to get a feel for the people and to find a connection to the place. So to give this piece context, I wrote a little poemy-thing.

Graffiti Heart
When the sky turns gloomy
And the sunshine is low
When the world is just crazed
And there's nowhere to go
In graffiti I find
A strange message of hope
Someone like me has been here;
someone at the end of their rope
Their rattle-can tag
Lifts my spirit so high
That it begins to soar
Like a kite kissing the sky
Pastel blueness of hope
Whispers of unity
On this grimy urban wall
Images of community
Do travelers feel
In their moments of loss
That the oceans, so hopeful,
Are worth deserts to cross
Perhaps every uncertain footstep
Every moment of fear
Is out-weighed by the message:
A fellow artist’s heart walked here
